Stepping Stones Private Tutoring
At Stepping Stones Tutoring and Literacy Consulting, we offer private, one-to-one sessions for children who need a little boost with their education. With over 13 years of primary school teaching experience, our tutor Jamie Ker is dedicated to building a course that is perfect for your child. We are based out of Epping, Essex in a welcoming, in-home classroom that is purpose built to suit all learners.
Why choose Stepping Stones?
“My ultimate goal is for children to walk away from sessions feeling proud and excited about their learning. Every child learns at a different pace and in different ways, just as adults do! I feel strongly that no child should feel like they cannot accomplish or understand a concept, it’s all about the approach. Educators hold great responsibility in building self-esteem and confidence in children. All children are clever. All children are capable of learning. Through my tuition, I aim to find the best way for children to learn in a positive, calm and collaborative environment.”

School Readiness
As pre-school aged children move closer to entering primary school, they learn new things and skills every day. As a primary school teacher, I aim to prepare them confidently for this transition through all aspects of the early years curriculum (academic, social, motor skills etc). Do children need one-to-one tuition before starting primary school? No. Can it help them to feel more secure and give them a head start in their learning? Absolutely.
4+ Private School Assessments
Children who are planning on attending a private school at 4+ undergo an assessment. These assessments usually take place in small groups of children and are held from October-February before September intake. Children will be observed rotating through a selection of learning activities alongside other children and staff. Teachers will sit with children to complete an activity together and engage in conversation. Teachers will be looking for how confidently children can complete a task, focus, communicate and respond to questions/instructions. As an experienced primary school teacher, I aim to prepare children through one-to-one tuition focusing explicitly on the activities and expectations of the 4+ assessments.
Bespoke Primary School Tutoring
No child is unable to achieve success in every aspect of their school career. Regardless of the subject that your child may by struggling with, I am certain that with the right approach, lessons and resources their confidence can improve. Whether you are looking for support with literacy, maths or anything in between, we will create a bespoke programme of study to ensure that your child feels prepared and proud moving forward. Specializing specifically in phonics, reading, writing and maths, I aim to create engaging and hands-on lessons that children truly enjoy. All surrounded by a wealth of resources in a welcoming, warm and inclusive learning environment.
Homeschool Boosters
Parents/caregivers who homeschool their children work extremely hard to ensure they deliver the best education possible. understandably, it can be completely overwhelming to know where to begin, or if your child is on track with their respective curriculum. The homeschooling community is full of brilliant ideas on how to enrich your child’s education through hands-on exploration and learning through experience. For those who feel they could use some guidance or support with the EYFS or KS1 curriculum, I offer 1:1 tutoring sessions, small group sessions (3-4 children from the homeschooling community) and/or parent/caregiver support.
